Synopsis: Vourvoura, a village in the mountains of Goethe’s Arcadia. A self-sufficient community living off their own produce while their children go to school, get an education and learn poems about the flag. Following the Νazi occupation, many will leave for Australia and America. Others will find themselves in Maroussi, a suburb of Athens that will undergo a violent transformation into a financial hub and will then host the Olympic Games of 2004. A facade of national pride based on a consumerist fever and loans.
Stelios Charalambopoulos
Born in Athens in 1956, he studied economics and cinematography in Greece and followed post-graduate studies in Paris. He was the publisher of the art magazine “GRAPHI”. In 1988, he co-founded with producer Thanos Lambropoulos and director of photography Yiannis Varvarigos PERIPLUS, a film and TV production company specializing in creative documentaries. He has made documentaries for the Greek Public Television (ERT) and collaborated with several European television channels (RAI, LA SEPT/ARTE, CHANNEL 4). His first feature film was “Hades”, in 1996.
